Judge Lawrence Marks, the Chief Administrative Judge in the New York state court system, announced yesterday that starting this Monday, May 4th, litigants in matters pending in NY courts can file new motions and respond to pending motions and file other applications.

Yesterday’s announcement marks a significant expansion of NY courts’ “virtual” operations and comes on the heels of weeks long period during which most pending matters were stalled due to prior orders. The announcement yesterday also permits notices of appeal to be filed electronically and alternative dispute resolution referrals, expands courts’ virtual court conferencing and expands e-filing capabilities.

Judge Marks also announced that trial judges had conducted more than 25,000 conferences since April 13th, with 1/3 of the conferenced case being “settled or otherwise disposed.”
